The 2024 general election has begun! As promised we are expanding our team and coverage for the next six weeks of the election.
In order to do this we would greatly appreciate any help from you, the readers, to help fund this. This is why we are turning on paid donations / subscriptions today. Don’t worry, the Substack will remain FREE and open access.
But as you know these pieces take time to research, write, edit and design. Just a small amount of funding will go a long way in accelerating the speed and quality of our coverage, as well as help us increase our readership.
So if you have enjoyed the last few months or years reading The Political Inquiry, we would appreciate anything you can give back. All donations received will be put back into the Substack in order to continue its development. Thank you to those who have already donated.
As you will see with our election coverage, you won’t regret it!
Our current plan for our election coverage is as follows:
- Wargaming #3 - Finishing our predictions as the campaign begins, with a final Wargaming #4 at the end of the campaign period which each of our writers predictions.
- A weekly poll and data analysis piece, simplifying the numbers so you don’t have to.
- Near-daily coverage of the campaign, with a focus on why things are happening, not just what is happening.
- Election-night live coverage and insider accounts of what could be a historic night.
- Exclusive coverage of my new book with Anthony Seldon, The Conservative Effect: Fourteen Wasted Years?
- More podcasts, regular updates on X and more!
Editorial and Analysis Style
As always, our editorial analysis will be independent and disconnected from the influences of mainstream media. This does not mean it won’t have an opinion. Pretending to be objective is not our job – and no one truly is. But one can achieve fair analysis without a party political tilt, while still maintaining a core judgement.
If one is questioning this, they can catch up on our recent series on the structural limitations Labour will face if it gets into government. As the series notes, Labour’s history is mired in failure as well as success – as is all parties, as is all political ideologies and projects.
So, welcome to what will be a pivotal six weeks of British political history. We are always looking for talented new writers or researchers, so please get in contact if you are interested in working for us over the election period.
And finally, even if you can’t pay, sharing, subscribing and recommending the Substack to your friends and family goes a long way to helping.
It's going to be an exciting period!
