Why would it be cynical on your part to conclude that the purpose of such an event is to bring together talented people who might build the future party? Dom has been quite explicit about it on his Substack and X.
I only said this as Dom made an explicit point of saying his views aren't necessarily representative of the rest the speakers / event. I also didn't ask either for comment so I'll leave it at speculation and let it play out how each side wants it to rather than ascribe political machinations that aren't (yet) known. But yes these are similar circles that could form a wider movement.

Pressure groups can be highly effective without taking political office - thinktank/activist route is a possibility here.
